‘Evil’ fashion: Every time Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo channel their characters
No one mourns evil people, but countless people appreciate some kind of tie-in fashion.
In the lead up to last year’s release of Wicked, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo took a page from Margot Robbie’s Barbie doll playbook in their approach to dressing, making them one of the greatest sartorial teams of all time.
In short, Erivo channeled the gravity-defying spirit of Elphaba, evoking both the Emerald City and her character’s green skin in structured haute couture that made her look ready for battle.
Grande understood the challenge and dressed Glinda in pastel pinks, floral motifs, ruffles, and polka dots, befitting an apprentice witch who would one day be recognized as “good.”
And suffice it to say, Wicked has proven to be a popular choice among movie fans. The first installment in director Jon M. Chu’s two-part saga based on the hit Broadway musical, which has grossed approximately $650 million worldwide and received 10 Oscar nominations.
Yes, I’m ready to defy gravity once again in Wicked: For Good, which opens on November 21st. E!’s hour-long livestream from the New York premiere of the Universal Pictures sequel begins November 17 at 6:15pm ET/3:15pm PT.
