2026 Actor of the Year: Yerin Ha talks about pitching Bridgerton’s heated rivalry crossover
Nicola Coughlan doesn’t want to make a big fuss about her appearance.
The Bridgerton actress, who stars as Penelope on the Netflix show, explained that she doesn’t like to talk about her body or her weight loss.
“Sometimes the thing I say that pisses people off is, ‘I’m not into body positivity,'” she said in an interview with Elle magazine on March 4.
“There are many things I am passionate about, but not just one thing,” Coughlan continued. “It’s someone else’s. It’s not mine.”
In fact, the 39-year-old actress was stunned by the commentary about her body during a sex scene with co-star Luke Newton (Colin Bridgerton) in Season 3.
“What was really weird was that when I was filming that series, I was working out a lot because I felt like I had to, so I was losing a lot of weight. I was probably a size 10, and one of the corsets was a size 8,” she noted. “Then people talked about how plus-size I was and I thought, ‘How crazy are we that I’m the biggest woman we want to see on screen?'”
