On a freezing night in the Champions League, Barcelona came from behind to beat Slavia Prague 4-2, with Fermín López scoring twice and Dani Olmo and Robert Lewandowski adding second-half goals to secure victory.

Wednesday’s win moves Barcelona into ninth place in the table with 13 points with one game in hand, alongside seven other teams vying for a top-eight finish and direct qualification to the Round of 16. Slavia are third from bottom with just three points.

On a bitterly cold night in Prague, where temperatures dropped to -8 degrees Celsius (17.6 degrees Fahrenheit), Slavia surprised the visitors by taking an early lead.

From a cleverly placed corner kick in the 10th minute, Thomas Halls flicked a pass from near to the far post, and under pressure from Frenkie de Jong, Vasil Kusesi bundled the ball over the line.

Barcelona equalized in the 34th minute when López fired a sharp, diagonal shot from inside the box that narrowly missed the Slovakia international’s shoulder and pushed the ball past keeper Jindrich Stanek at his near post.

López doubled his tally and gave Barcelona the lead in the 42nd minute with a superb shot from just outside the box. The attacking midfielder scored accurately in the bottom right corner, giving Stanek no chance.

Barça’s advantage lasted only two minutes, as an unfortunate defensive mistake allowed Slavia to equalize. Under pressure to defend a corner, Lewandowski inadvertently deflected the ball off his shoulder and into his own net, sending his team into half-time level at 2-2.

Barcelona regained their composure during the intermission and took control of the match in the second half, relentlessly attacking Slavia’s defense.

Rafinha, Pedri and López all squandered good chances, and substitute Olmo produced a moment of magic. In the 64th minute, he restored Barcelona’s lead in powerful style with an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box into the top corner.

Lewandowski made amends for the earlier own goal by clinching the win in the 70th minute.

Marcus Rashford, another second-half substitute, ran furiously up the left flank and delivered a cross into the box. Lewandowski initially struggled to control the pass, but quickly reacted and slotted past Stanek, giving Barcelona a two-goal cushion.

“We knew it was going to be a difficult game with the cold weather. They put a lot of pressure on us. It was tough… My feet and hands hurt, I can barely feel them… It was tough, but we managed to come back and win,” Lopez told Movistar Plus.

“We knew that goal difference was important. We wanted to keep a clean sheet and aim for a place in the top eight, but that was difficult. I’m glad we played well and got the win.”
