Amazon sent a notice to its cloud representatives on Tuesday, citing a clear error in acknowledging the company’s “organizational changes.”

The e-commerce giant plans to announce widespread layoffs to its entire workforce as early as this week, people familiar with the matter previously told CNBC. Amazon’s cloud computing and stores divisions are among the divisions expected to be affected.

“These changes are tough on everyone,” Colleen Aubrey, senior vice president of applied AI solutions at Amazon Web Services, wrote in an email seen by CNBC. “These decisions are difficult, but they are being made thoughtfully to position our organization and AWS for future success.”

The memo also cited a post by Beth Galetti, Amazon’s head of human resources, and said the company had notified “colleagues within the affected organizations.” The subject line of the email states “Project Dawn,” and the email says “canceled,” presumably indicating that the sender recalled it after the fact. It is unclear what Project Dawn refers to.

An Amazon representative did not respond to a request for comment.

The job cuts come after Amazon announced in October that it would lay off 14,000 employees. At the time, the company indicated that the cuts would continue into 2026 as it found “additional locations where layers can be removed.”

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said the job cuts were aimed at reducing management and bureaucracy within the company. He also predicted last June that Amazon’s internal staff would shrink over the next few years due to efficiency gains from AI.

The company announced early Tuesday that it would restructure its grocery business. Amazon announced it would close its fresh supermarkets and Go Convenience Marts to prioritize investments in Whole Foods stores and online grocery delivery.

Jason Buechel, Amazon’s head of grocery, told employees in a memo that the company needs to make more “thoughtful choices” to attract customers. He also announced other restructuring moves for the department, including plans to appoint a leadership role for “grocery quality.”

The company is scheduled to announce its fourth quarter results after the bell on February 5th.
