MIAMI (AP) – Hurricane Priscilla forms in the Pacific Ocean off the southwest coast of Mexico, with heavy rains and gusts of winds affecting coastal areas.

The Miami-based National Hurricane Center said on Sunday that Priscilla’s maximum sustained winds were 75 mph (120 kph) and the storm was located about 285 miles (460 kph) north and south of Cabocolientes. It was heading towards the north-northwest at 3 mph (6 kph).

The center says heavy rains and gusts of wind will affect the southwestern coast of southwestern Mexico, allowing flash flooding. The swells produced by Priscilla have affected parts of the region’s coast, reaching the coastal regions of Baja in southwestern and western California by Monday. The swell is expected to create life-threatening surfs and rifts.

Tropical storms have been issued, from Punta San Telmo to Punta Mita, part of the coast of southwestern Mexico. The regions of Guerrero, Michoacan, Colima and Jalisco allowed up to 6 inches (15 cm).

Another storm off the coast of Mexico in the Pacific Ocean in the Octave did not land on forecasts and without coastal clocks or warnings, making it a hurricane Sunday. Its highest winds are close to 80 mph (130 kph), and the Hurricane Centre said it is expected to gradually fade on Monday. It was located about 995 miles (1,600 km) west-southwest at the southern tip of Baja California, moving northeast at 6 mph (9 kph).
