After being criticized for promoting adult toy companies on social media, Rumer addressed any embarrassment.
“What I find really interesting is that what I wanted to raise is that a lot of the comments I saw were, ‘Oh, you’re a mother,'” she said in an Instagram story video in August. ” ‘Don’t show such an intimate moment. First of all, you’re breastfeeding, and now it’s here.”
“We’re in a culture where talking about women’s joy and talking about women’s sexuality is very frowned upon,” she added. “It’s just the idea of posting about something or having some kind of casual off-cuff conversation about it. The reaction is visceral from people.”
Instead, Rumer emphasized the importance of having these conversations so that they can “get rid of some of the shame around it.”
“As someone who currently has a daughter, the idea of being involved in all sorts of shame and sexually discovering – investing taboos around it – I think it’s mean,” she shared. “I want Lou to love her body and be able to share it or not share it with the people she wants.”
