Detroit – Honda Motor Production of the Acura ZDX electric vehicle that was in production has been discontinued. General Motors In Tennessee, CNBC learned.
Production of the 2026 model vehicle was scheduled to begin this month at GM’s Spring Hill Assembly plant in Tennessee, but Honda has “decided to cancel all future production,” according to a message to plant workers seen by CNBC on Tuesday.
A Honda spokesperson confirmed the plans Wednesday, citing the market situation for EVS. Another Honda brand EV called the Prologue, which is being assembled by GM, will continue to produce in Mexico, she said.
“We can confirm that Acura ZDX has ended production to better fit our product portfolio with our customers, market conditions and long-term strategic goals,” she said in an email. “ZDX has played a valuable role in the Acura brand. With the arrival of the all-electric Acura RSX, produced at an Ohio EV hub in late 2026, and the Acura model of hybrid electricity currently under development, we will provide a foundation built on the basis of next year.”
Honda has sold around 19,000 ZDX models since its release in the US last year.
GM declined to comment on the vehicle. This was part of the company’s plan to help EV production and expand technology.
The message to plant workers also said that companies are adjusting their production of EVs to meet slower demand for electric vehicles, not related to relationships between companies or product quality, but the reason for the shift.
“We have a strong relationship with Honda that we have built over the years and look forward to working with Honda on future opportunities,” the message said. “Honda’s decision is not a reflection of Spring Hill’s workforce or GM’s ability to commit to Spring Hill.”
The message also said that vehicle shifts will not change the facility’s GM employment plans. We aim to add engine-powered Chevrolet Bleather from 2027.
