There was no handshake again among team players as the match took place amidst lingering tensions between the two countries in the wake of a military conflict between nuclear-armed neighbors in May.

There was clear tension between both players who threatened to bubble up in the Indian innings as Pakistani fast bowler Harris Rauf appeared to trade fervent words for Sharma and Gil.

Pakistan has formed 72 partnerships between Sahibzda Fahan and Saim Ayub for the second wicket that laid the foundation for the innings after Fakar Zaman (15) fell early.

Farhan, who was first dropped by Sharma, completed a half-century with 34 balls and piloted Pakistan 91-1 after 10 overs.

However, Pakistan couldn’t get one boundary as Ayub (21), Hussain Talat (10) and Farhan (58 off 45) quickly left in succession in the next six overs.

An undefeated knock from captain Salman Ali Agarga (13-17) and Faheem Ashraf (8 off 8) added 42 runs in the final three overs to help Pakistan reach a competitive 171-5.

Sharma announced his intentions by hitting Shaheen Shah Afridi with six boundaries and four sixes on the first ball, completing the half century with 24 balls.

India seemed to be winning right away until Gill (47 off 28) was bowled by Faheem Ashraf on the 10th.

Captain Suryakumaryadav fell to Harris Rauv (2-26) for the duck in the next over, and Sharma (39 off 74) was soon fired by Abral Ahmed, temporarily examining India’s pursuit.

However, India, who beat Pakistan with seven wickets in the group stage, still managed to get over the line, with Tilak Balma (19 off 30) hitting Afridi with 6 and 4 on the final two balls of the inning.

Pakistan will face Sri Lanka on Tuesday, looking for their first victory in the Super 4 one day before they play Bangladesh, where both sides beat Sri Lanka on Saturday.
