Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin serves a one-year sentence

He also said that Thaksin was believed to have intervened in the treatment procedure to prevent him from returning to prison, and that he mistakenly claimed he had a health condition to be sent to the hospital.

Thaksin was sent to a remand prison in Bangkok after the lawsuit. A message on his Facebook page, shared by his team following the ruling, said he had accepted the court’s decision.

His exile caused nearly two decades of deep political polarization, opposing his supporters against opponents, including better city residents, eager royalists and military forces. He faced a charge briefly in 2008, but began a decade-long self-imposed asylum, skipping bail and fled abroad again.

After resigning, he faced a barrage of lawsuits and criminal charges that he allegedly motivated.
