The first gigawatt, a unit of power that has become a common standard for measuring AI data center capacity, will be introduced in the first half of next year, according to the release.

“We are excited to deepen our partnership with Anthropic and deploy AMD Helios at gigawatt scale,” AMD CEO Lisa Su said in a statement.

AMD is one of the big beneficiaries of the AI ​​boom, as it is one of the companies that makes GPUs that can train models and run large-scale workloads. compete directly with NvidiaAlthough it dominates the market, it has contracts with many of the biggest names in the industry, including Anthropic’s rivals. OpenAI.

As part of that arrangement, AMD issued OpenAI warrants for up to 160 million shares of AMD common stock, representing approximately 10% of the company, with vesting milestones tied to both deployment volume and AMD’s stock price.

Anthropic’s deal with AMD is the latest in a series of infrastructure deals the company announced this year to increase its computing power. The company said in April that demand for Claude’s models and products was causing “unavoidable strain” on its infrastructure, impacting “reliability and performance” for users, especially during peak times.

In May, Anthropic signed a deal with Elon Musk’s SpaceX to use all the computing power at the company’s Colossus 1 data center in Memphis, Tennessee. As part of that agreement, Anthropic will pay SpaceX $1.25 billion per month through May 2029, according to SpaceX’s prospectus.

Anthropic has experienced explosive growth this year, thanks in part to the success of its popular AI coding assistant, Claude Code. In May, the company announced run-rate revenue of more than $47 billion, higher than the roughly $10 billion in revenue for all of last year.

The company closed a funding round that month at a valuation of $965 billion and is gearing up for a major IPO that could happen as early as this year. Anthropic confidentially filed a prospectus with the Securities and Exchange Commission in June, but has not yet disclosed any additional plans.
