shares of super microcomputer Shares rose 15% after the server maker said Tuesday that it expects June quarter profit margins to be higher than previously expected due to a surge in new orders.
The company said gross margin and adjusted gross margin should be between 15% and 17%, up from the 8.2% to 8.4% range that management indicated in May.
Supermicro said in a preliminary business report that the revisions were “mainly due to a strong customer and product mix.”
Server demand including Nvidia Graphics processing units that run artificial intelligence models are proliferating at Super Micro, as well as at its rivals. Dell and hewlett packard enterprise. Dell stock rose 5% in after-hours trading Tuesday, while HPE rose 4%.
In June, Super Micro CEO Charles Liang wrote to X that he was “proud to co-build another new gigawatt AI data center for @SpaceX and @XAI within a year.” Elon Musk’s space x Musk’s SpaceX acquired his AI venture xAI in an all-stock deal in February, and it is now known as SpaceXAI. SpaceX also owns and operates the social network X.
Supermicro now expects June quarter sales to be at the lower end of its guidance range of $11 billion to $12.5 billion, according to a statement Tuesday. Analyst estimates compiled by LSEG were $11.67 billion.
Supermicro announced that its order backlog at the end of its 2026 fiscal year, which ended June 30, reached a record high level. New orders totaled more than $60 billion in the fiscal fourth quarter.
“These new orders are expected to be delivered over the next several quarters,” the company said.
Super Micro is scheduled to hold a financial results briefing on August 11th.
