Kate wrote in a July 2023 statement: “I never wanted to do this, but I feel cornered and left with no options.” “My son Colin, who I love dearly, has received multiple psychiatric diagnoses over the years. For my safety, the safety of his siblings, and my own well-being, after years of outpatient treatment that was found to be insufficient for his needs, he was institutionalized.”
At the time, she also directly addressed his allegations against her.
“Colin’s distorted perception of reality is one of the many issues he has always struggled with,” she said at the time.
“Unfortunately, I think Colin remains a very troubled young man and continues to need a lot of help,” Duchess Kate said. “His brothers and sisters and I are not directly involved in his life due to his past unpredictable behavior and violent tendencies towards us.”
Meanwhile, Colin denies his mother’s claims about his behavior, saying that his psychiatric treatment has had a negative impact on his mental health.
