Where Aaron stands with his family
When it comes to reconciliation, Aaron hinted that he and his family haven’t reached the end zone yet.
“It’s definitely possible,” he told Ian. “It’s just timing, it’s just timing. Every time I think I’m getting a little closer, something weird happens. But I certainly want a relationship with my dad.”
This father and son duo clashed some time ago. According to the book, Aaron spotted Ed at the 2023 American Century Championship and approached him because the NFL star was golfing and his father had gotten tickets.
“I thought, ‘What’s best in this moment? What gift can I give him?'” Aaron added. “Because I love him. I have no animosity toward him, despite anything that has ever been said or done.”
According to the book, the family hugged and said “I love you” for the first time in years. However, Ian said there was no further communication (although Ian wrote that Ed and Darla were present for the first game against the Jets, where Aaron tore his Achilles tendon in a season-ending injury).
Still, his parents expressed hope for the future.
“Yes, we are all about forgiving and forgetting,” Darla told Ian. “We’re really happy to be able to move on… We may not see him all the time. We’re okay with how it’s framed. We need to start a new relationship, but it feels weird not being able to communicate with him even about the important things in life.”
Ed added, “We have unconditional love for him. No matter what happens, we just want that relationship.”
