Still, Cooper took the plunge. And although she initially didn’t think of herself getting married, she later gave Kaplan the green light to propose and revealed their engagement and his identity in April 2023.
“One thing about Matt Kaplan is that he’s the most romantic man I’ve ever met in my life,” Cooper told Vogue about the proposal. The proposal consisted of a fake photo shoot to glam up her, a scavenger hunt at home, and a surprise party filled with family and friends. “I’m a very lucky woman.”
She and Kaplan (previously married to Claire Holt) married in Mexico the following year. But Cooper didn’t want anyone to call her mom just yet.
“I know he’s going to be the most amazing father to our baby, but I realized I needed more time,” she said on a June episode of Call Her Daddy. “It’s hard to say out loud, but I’ve realized that I need a little more time to live before I move on to the next beautiful chapter of my life. I never feel like I have to stop everything once I become a mom. If anything, I just want to be very present in the moment.”
