Indeed, Meredith convinces Dr. Miranda Bailey (chandra wilson) ignored the IRB’s ban on operating on Nick because she is the only person she can trust.
Nick’s surgery is a success and Meredith does something she previously said she would never do.
“Marry me,” she asked Nick, to which he joked, “How badly did I get hurt?”
To which Meredith responded, “I’ve had enough thinking about the people I’ve lost. I really don’t want to lose you.”
She says: “I realized that not being married to you doesn’t protect me from anything. I love you, I love our life together, and I don’t want fear to get in the way of me anymore.”
Meredith admitted that she didn’t want a traditional wedding, but Nick quickly accepted her proposal.
“Are you kidding me?” Nick asked, referring to Meredith’s surgery in season 14. “I’ve wanted to marry you since the last time we were in this bed.”
This moment is especially poignant because while Nick has hinted for several seasons that he wanted to marry Meredith, Meredith has chosen to prioritize independence, career, and children.
