Dolly Parton is changing lives simply because she can.

After East Tennessee Children’s Hospital announced it would rename the hospital in honor of the “Jolene” hitmaker, the hospital’s president and CEO Matt Shafer revealed how her large donation will highlight countless lives.

“What I can tell you is that she has made a generational and transformative commitment to children and their mission,” Schaefer told Healthcare CEO in an interview published March 30. “And that commitment has exceeded our expectations, exceeded our generosity, and will be the lifeblood of this mission now and for many years to come.”

Schaefer added, “We are excited and humbled by her drive.”

Hospital executives declined to reveal the exact amount of the “9 to 5” singer’s donation, but said the hospital’s name change to Dolly Parton Children’s Hospital “allows us to tell a broader story about the depth and breadth of services here, and to increase those “It allows us to imagine how we can continue to expand our services, and accelerates how we think about what our responsibility is to the patients and families who trust us today and who will always trust us tomorrow.”
