united airlines and its flight attendant union have reached a tentative collective bargaining agreement that includes the first pay increase in nearly six years.

If ratified by flight attendants, United Airlines would be the last major airline to have a labor agreement with flight attendants since the end of the coronavirus pandemic.

United Airlines said the deal includes immediate raises and a maximum hourly wage of $100 at the end of the contract, as well as on-board pay for flight attendants and “signing bonuses totaling $740 million for all flight attendants.”

The association of flight attendants’ union, the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, did not provide specific details of the deal, but said it included an increase in base pay, as well as additional compensation for flight interruptions and new limits on night flight assignments.

The collective agreement comes as United plans an aggressive expansion of its high-touch premium cabins, including new seats with fine dining options and seats that convert into beds.

Last July, United’s flight attendants rejected a previous collective bargaining agreement that included an immediate 26% raise.
