Two mysterious videos posted to the White House’s official X and Instagram accounts went viral on Wednesday night, but the purpose of the short vertical clips was unclear. One video was later deleted.

The first video was posted around 9:15 p.m. ET and appears to have been shot on a smartphone with the camera pointed at someone’s feet. In the approximately four-second video, a woman’s voice can be heard asking, “The launch is coming soon, right?”

A line of text on the screen will read “Sound On.” The video was deleted from X and the White House’s Instagram accounts about 90 minutes after it was posted.

A second short video posted at 10 p.m. ET showed a static black screen and a phone notification sound playing. I saw an American flag in one frame. The post included smartphone emojis and audio.

The content of the post, which has racked up millions of views, was not shown, and many online commenters argued that the account may have been hacked or that officials were cryptically teasing something.

The White House did not respond to requests for comment.

It is unclear at this time whether the video was intentionally posted. These posts follow previous instances in which Trump’s White House social media accounts shared content in the form of memes.
