Ellen Pompeo & Chris Ivery
Apparently it was record producer Chris Ivery who asked Grey’s Anatomy lead Ellen Pompeo to “choose me, choose me, love me” after they passed each other at a Los Angeles grocery store in 2003.
“I was with a mutual friend,” the actress, who has starred as Meredith Gray since the series premiered in 2005, elaborated on The Drew Barrymore Show in 2022.
So after exchanging a quick hello with his girlfriend, who is also from the Boston area, “he kept calling me and I didn’t call him back. And he said, ‘You’re being rude. You’re not going to call me back,’ and I said, ‘Well, I’m not going to date you.'” And he said, “Who’s going to date you?” I don’t even know you. ”
Basically, she continued, “We had a fight in the beginning. It’s always the way my heart is, it’s the same as pissing me off, and I’m all yours.”
They married four years later and had daughter Stella in 2009, sister Sienna in 2014, and son Christopher in 2016.
“We’re like two kids who made it to Hollywood safely and jumped on this ride,” Pompeo said in a 2025 appearance on Alex Cooper’s “Call Her Daddy” podcast. “I couldn’t believe that something was actually happening. It was great, I got a great job and I got to travel all over the world.”
