He celebrated his 48th birthday on March 8, 2025, and admitted he had just gone through the “most difficult year” of his life.
“When I was younger, I defined myself as an actor, but it wasn’t really that fulfilling,” he said in a video posted to Instagram. “And then I became a husband, which was much better. Then I became a father, and that was the ultimate. I was then able to define myself as a loving, capable, strong, supportive husband and father, provider, and steward of the land that we are so lucky to live on.
That used to be the answer, their father told Olivia (15), Joshua (13), Annabelle (12), Emilia (9), Gwendolyn (7) and Jeremiah (4).
“And this year, I had to face my own mortality, and it took me so close to death. And all the definition that I held so dear was stripped away from me. I couldn’t be a useful husband to my wife because I was away for medical treatment. I couldn’t be a helpful husband to my wife. I couldn’t be the father who was there to take them to bed and put them to sleep. I couldn’t even be the caretaker of the land because I was sometimes too weak to prune all the trees because I wasn’t working.”
