Software, legal services and video game stocks have been sold off in recent weeks on concerns that new AI capabilities and tools could be wiped out. But how real is that threat? We decided to find out.
CNBC’s Deidre Bosa and I use Anthropic’s AI coding tool Claude Code to Monday.coma project management platform with a market cap of $5 billion. We are not developers and had no coding experience. However, we are adept at vibe coding tools. It is an AI tool that allows you to build apps that function based on plain English commands from users, including those with limited technical knowledge.
We started simple and asked Claude to build a project management dashboard similar to Monday’s, with features like multiple project boards, assigned team members, and a status dropdown. A working prototype was created in minutes.
We then asked Claude to do some independent research on Monday to identify the key features and recreate them. Many other features have been added, such as a calendar.
The real magic happened when I connected the clone to my email account and launched a project manager customized to my personal life. The AI found an invitation to a child’s birthday party that Dee had forgotten on her calendar (she definitely didn’t have a present yet), booked a ticket for an upcoming trip, and added a reminder to sign a waiver for another child’s birthday party.
It took less than an hour. If we had paid users, it would have cost anywhere from $5 to $15 in compute credits, depending on the amount of interaction with the AI agent. As more data centers are built, that cost is likely to start coming down.
So which companies should investors be concerned about? Silicon Valley insiders we spoke to say the most exposed names are those “sitting on top of their jobs.” atlassian, adobe, hubspotZendesk, Smartsheet, etc., are not core to your business.

With software being sold on a large scale this year, it may be an opportunity for investors to separate “necessities” from “nice-to-haves”.
