Patrick Dempsey shares latest update on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ co-star Eric Dane’s battle with ALS
Ellen Pompeo is supporting Eric Dane in his fight against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
In fact, the Grey’s Anatomy star, who co-starred with Eric for six seasons on the medical series, revealed that her longtime friend has been diagnosed with a neurodegenerative disease.
“As soon as I heard about his diagnosis, I texted him and said, ‘If you want to talk, I’m here,'” Ellen said in a prerecorded message at the ALS Network Champions for Cure & Care Gala on January 24, People reported. “And 30 seconds later my phone rang.”
At the time, Ellen offered to help Eric, 53, who played Meredith Gray’s colleague Mark “McSteamy” Sloan, saying, “Whatever you need, I’ll do anything I can to help you. I love you.”
“I’m really proud of you,” she added. “I love you so much and it’s an honor to talk about you today.”
Ellen, 56, also reflected on her first time working with the Euphoria actor, who joined the show during season two.
“I remember when he showed up as McSteamy, we had an instant electrochemical reaction,” she explained, “and I fell in love with him right away.”
