On Thursday, June 5, 2025, Nintendo’s Switch 2 game console was exhibited at the Bic Camera electronics store in Tokyo. Nintendo fans from Tokyo to Manhattan waited in line for hours to be among the first to get their hands on the Switch 2, supporting the biggest global debut of the gadget since the iPhone’s launch last year.

nintendo on Tuesday left its full-year Switch 2 sales forecast unchanged, allaying some concerns that the flagship console is losing momentum.
The company maintained its November forecast for Switch 2 sales of 19 million units in the fiscal year ending March 2026. Nintendo has sold 17.37 million Switch 2 units to date, with 7 million sold in the December quarter alone.
Nintendo has said that the Switch 2 is the fastest-selling game console it has ever released. “The implosion in sales that some investors were expecting did not occur in the holiday quarter,” Kantan Games CEO Sercan Toto told CNBC on Tuesday.
Nintendo’s financial results for the third quarter of the fiscal year ending December 31st and LSEG’s forecasts are as follows.
Revenue: 806.32 billion yen ($5.2 billion) compared to the expected 847.73 billion yen. Net income: 159.93 billion yen compared to the forecast of 147.3 billion yen.
Sales were up 86% year over year, and profits were up 24%.
Nintendo’s stock price has been under pressure in recent months. Following the release of Switch 2 in June, the gaming giant’s stock price hit a record high of over 14,000 yen in August. However, the stock price has fallen more than 30% since then.
There were also concerns that Switch 2 sales were struggling ahead of the important year-end sales season in December. However, since the release of the Switch 2, Mario Kart World has sold approximately 14 million copies and Donkey Kong Bananza has sold 4.25 million copies. These are by far the most popular games for Nintendo’s consoles.
Last month, market research firm Circana announced that the Nintendo Switch 2 was the best-selling game console in the United States in December.
Investors are eyeing several possible headwinds for Nintendo. That includes whether the company will be affected by the unprecedented rise in the price of memory, a key component of game consoles. Another is whether the company has a strong enough pipeline of games to support Switch 2.
For the Switch 2, Nintendo plans to release Mario Tennis Fever in February and Pokémon Pokopia in March. These two titles are from the company’s most popular series.
The movie “Super Mario Galaxy” is scheduled to be released in April. The first Super Mario movie, released in 2023, gave Nintendo a huge boost by spurring fans to buy the original Switch console, which was released nearly six years ago at the time. Nintendo is probably hoping for a similar effect with the Switch 2.
