The Today anchor is praying for the safe return of Savannah Guthrie’s mother.
After the journalist, who was absent from NBC’s morning show on February 2, confirmed that her mother, Nancy Guthrie, was reported missing in Arizona, her family on air rallied to show support.
“We love Nancy,” Jenna Bush Hager said on the Feb. 2 episode of Today with Jenna & Sheinelle. “I know her personally.”
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said at a news conference that Arizona authorities have been searching for the 84-year-old woman since she was reported missing on February 1st. And although authorities have said Nancy has no known “cognitive issues,” the sheriff’s office said on Feb. 2 that she “suffers from several physical ailments and has some ‘physical issues'” that require medication.
“This is a potentially fatal drug if not taken within 24 hours,” Nanos continued.
Meanwhile, on the Today show, Shainelle Jones emphasized the importance of community during these difficult times.
“I said to myself, ‘Okay, now is the best time for us as a community,'” she said of the daytime show’s call to action, urging viewers to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department with any information “no matter how small” about the issue.
