Catherine O’Hara had an extraordinary career.
Indeed, the Emmy Award winner, who died on January 30 at the age of 71, easily cemented her status as one of North America’s most legendary comic actresses over a career that spanned decades.
Katherine began her television career in the 70s in her native Canada in various television movies and shows. However, her star began to rise in 1977 when she appeared on the Emmy Award-winning Canadian sketch comedy series Second City Television (SCTV) with Eugene Levy, who frequently collaborated with Joe Flaherty and Harold Ramis, where she displayed her comedic talents for six seasons until 1983.
Shortly after appearing on television, Katherine landed the role of Delia Dietz in 1988’s Beetlejuice, co-starring Michael Keaton and Wynonna Ryder. Over the next ten years, Catherine played Kate McCallister in the films Home Alone, which made her a holiday star alongside Macaulay Culkin, and she appeared alongside her longtime friend Eugene in Christopher Guest’s comedies Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, and A Mighty Wind.
