At a press conference at the White House, President Donald Trump pointed out that his second term will be one year old on January 20, 2026.

President Donald Trump gave no details on Tuesday about what efforts he would make to achieve his goal of making Greenland part of the United States, a day before he was scheduled to arrive at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

During a nearly two-hour press conference at the White House, President Trump was asked how far he would go to acquire the Arctic island, saying, “We’ll see.”

President Trump’s aggressive pursuit of Greenland, including threatening to impose tariffs on many European countries until Greenland is handed over, rattled financial markets on Tuesday.

European leaders who have resisted the U.S. takeover of Greenland have balked at the threat of tariffs, warning they would retaliate if tariffs were imposed.

President Trump has long sought Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark. The president argues that acquiring it is critical to U.S. national security interests in the Arctic. His pursuit of the island has intensified since he launched a military operation to capture Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro.

President Trump said Tuesday that he intends to meet in Davos this week to discuss Greenland.

“We have a number of meetings scheduled in Greenland,” President Trump said. “You know, Davos, I’m leaving tonight. We have a lot of meetings scheduled in Greenland, and I think things are going to go pretty well.”
