Fermín López scored one goal and added two more as Barcelona overcame Athletic Bilbao with a 5-0 victory in the Spanish Super Cup semi-finals in Jeddah.
Rafinha scored twice, and Ferran Torres and Rooney Barzigi also scored in a dominant display, extending the team’s winning streak to nine games on Wednesday.
Hansi Flick’s side dominated their Basque rivals, scoring four goals in the first half, with star forward Lamine Yamal watching from the bench.
Barcelona are currently awaiting the winner of Thursday’s second semi-final match between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid, which will also take place in the Saudi Arabian city.
The Catalans took the lead in the 22nd minute with a goal from Torres, who received an awkward pass from Fermín that appeared to miss the shot, and with his excellent first touch fired a shot into the back of the goal from close range.
It was 2-0 when Raphinha reached the goal line in the 30th minute and his low cross into the center of the penalty box was neatly slotted into the net by Fermin.
Fermin then contributed to the goal again in the 34th minute, replacing Baljiji, completing his hat-trick, but it was a simple pass to Barjiji, who twisted and turned inside the box and fired a low shot into the net.
Barcelona were gaining momentum at this stage and added a fourth goal when Rafinha broke into the box and crashed into the roof of the net.
The Brazilian scored his second goal in the 52nd minute when Bilbao failed to clear the ball into the penalty area and Rafinha fired a left-footed shot.
Yamal appeared as a substitute against Athletic and should be able to start in Sunday’s final at the same venue.
Barcelona will be hoping to defend the Super Cup title they won last season and extend their record for wins in the competition to 15.
