What did Coldplay’s Chris Martin say that sparked the former Astronomer CEO Andy Byron scandal?
Performing at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts on July 15, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin focused on the pair, who looked like they could jump out of each other’s arms when they saw each other on the jumbotron.
“The way we do it is with cameras,” Martin told the audience beforehand. “So if you’re looking at the screen, we’re going to go find out who’s there to say hi.” The first person is a young man excited by an impromptu Happy Birthday tribute from Martin.
“Oh, look at these two,” the singer says, then the camera lingers on the two looking cozy. But then the man bent down and the woman put her hands in front of her face and turned her back to the camera.
“Either they’re cheating or they’re just really shy,” Martin joked. “I have no idea what to do.”
Then, as the woman got up from her seat and disappeared into the crowd behind her, the singer added, “Oh my god! I hope we didn’t do something wrong.”
The moment was captured on video for posterity by concertgoer Grace Springer, and by the end of the night, internet sleuths had identified the squirrel pair as Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and Astronomer Chief Human Resources Officer Christine Cabot. Additionally, as TikTokers, X users, and others quickly speculated, Byron and Cabot are both married to other people.
Shortly after, Martin asked another pair who appeared on screen, “Okay, listen, are you two a couple? Are you two a legitimate couple?”
