Self-driving car company Waymo announced Monday that it has named Google executive Steve Fehler as its new chief financial officer.
The new CFO is alphabetThe Waymo-owned company brought its robotaxi service to more markets last year and plans further expansion in 2026. Fieler’s appointment also comes as Waymo looks to its next steps, including seeking additional outside investment.
“Steve’s wealth of experience will be instrumental as we move forward in this next chapter,” Waymo co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana said in a LinkedIn post.
Mawakana also thanked Waymo’s former finance chief Elisa de Martel for her role in the role since she took over in 2022. Waymo declined to elaborate on Mr. de Martel, who did not respond to requests for comment.
“We wish her all the best as she steps into her next chapter,” Mawakana wrote.
Waymo said Fiehler was a key member of Google’s CFO leadership team and served as vice president of planning, investments and investor relations. Prior to that, Mr. Fiehler was Google’s Head of Business Finance for Platforms and Ecosystems, where he was responsible for products such as Android and Chrome.
Prior to joining Google, Mr. Fiehler served as Director of Finance. HP. He has also held various positions at various early-stage companies and General Electric Company, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Alphabet’s Other Bets division, which includes the Waymo division, had third-quarter sales of $344 million, down from $388 million a year earlier. Losses also widened from $1.12 billion in the third quarter of last year to $1.43 billion in the same period this year.
Waymo currently offers commercial services in the Los Angeles area, Phoenix, San Francisco, Atlanta, and Austin. The company has also announced plans to launch robotaxi services in Miami and Washington, D.C., in 2026, and Waymo announced in August that it had received permission to begin testing self-driving cars with trained safety drivers in New York City.
