In the music video for her new song “Bandaids,” released on November 6th, Katy begins washing dishes and drops what appears to be an engagement ring into the sink. As she holds out her hand to take it back, she hints at separation, singing, “I promise to reach out to God/There’s no stone I won’t turn over/It’s not what you did, it’s what you didn’t do/You were there and you weren’t.”
And Katy’s honesty didn’t end with the song’s opening lyrics, as she went on to hint at the reason for their breakup.
“I’m used to you letting me down/There’s no use trying to send you flowers anymore,” she continued. “Even if you tell yourself you’ll change, you won’t change/Putting a Band-Aid on a broken heart.”
In the video, Katy sings and goes through several painful experiences, including injuring her hand in a sink garbage disposal and falling from a tree. However, as she states in the lyrics, pain was not the only thing she felt during the relationship mentioned in this song.
