NFL star Travis Kelce is partnering with activist investor Jana Partners to help reshape the NFL’s future. Six Flags Entertainment Corporation.
Jana announced Tuesday that it has partnered with Kelce, consumer director Glenn Murphy and technology director Dave Habiger, whose investment group currently owns about a 9% economic interest in the amusement park operator.
Six Flags stock soared more than 15% on Tuesday on the news.
The group will work with Six Flags’ board and management to find ways to “increase shareholder value and improve the guest experience,” Jana said.
Kelsey, who won three Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs and is fiancee of pop star Taylor Swift, said the partnership is also personal.
“I’m a lifelong Six Flags fan and grew up going to these parks with my family and friends,” he said in a statement. “The opportunity to help make Six Flags special for generations to come is too good to pass up.”
The move comes as Six Flags seeks to reinvigorate attendance and profitability following years of leadership changes and a pandemic-induced downturn. Despite Tuesday’s gains, the stock is still down about 48% since the beginning of the year.
Scott Ostfeld, the firm’s managing partner, revealed the investment at 13D Monitor’s Active and Passive Investor Summit on Tuesday. The Wall Street Journal first reported the move.
