Dakota Mae Johnson was born on October 4, 1989.
And ever since then, she’s lived her life in Hollywood, making her film debut in 1999’s “Crazy in Alabama” (starring her mother and directed by her then-stepfather, Antonio Banderas), and going on to go on to star in the “Fifty Shades” series, “A Bigger Splash,” “How to Be Single,” “Suspiria” and “Madame Web” under her own name.
She said she finds Nepo’s baby conversations “incredibly annoying.” The main reason is that working in the family business is very common.
“I started auditioning,” she recalled to her Elle Materialist co-star Pedro Pascal in 2025. During the drought, “I had to ask my parents for help,” she said. “I’m very thankful that I had parents who were supportive, and they were, but it certainly wasn’t fun. You know, the audition process was horrible.”
Melanie and Don divorced in 1996, but she remains close with her stepmother, former stepfather, and all of her half-siblings, who are simply brothers and sisters to her.
“I was raised by a lot of people: my mom and dad, and my in-laws and nannies, my tutors, my friends and teachers, and my friends’ parents and my boyfriend’s parents,” Dakota told The Hollywood Reporter in 2021. “I wanted to learn from everyone, and I still do. I’m grateful for my parents and my crazy life, because I’m who I am today because of the way I grew up.”
