Brendan Allen shook up the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight division, suffering his first loss in the promotion with a technical knockout (TKO) after the Dutchman’s corner ruled him unable to continue heading into the fifth round.
De Ridder was visibly exhausted in the neutral corner of UFC Fight Night in Vancouver on Saturday night, bringing the mixed martial arts (MMA) main event to an abrupt end.

Allen (26-7 MMA) avoided De Ridder’s (21-3 MMA) devastating kickboxing ability by using his wrestling and controlling De Ridder with strikes from top position.
De Ridder had few answers for the American fighter, but Allen replaced fellow contestant Anthony Hernandez (15-2, 1 no-contest MMA) on short notice.
“It feels good to do exactly what you say you’re going to do,” Allen said. “This is me off the couch for three and a half weeks. I said I’m a different monster. When my head is clear and I’m ready, I’m the best in the world.”
With the UFC’s middleweight battle in full swing, Allen said after the fight that he did well enough to earn a shot at the title against champion Khamzat Chimaev (15-0 MMA).
“Come get it, baby,” Allen said.
De Ridder hadn’t lost in 19 months.

In the co-main event, welterweight Mike Malott (13-2-1 MMA) dodged a bullet by avoiding a no contest against Kevin Holland (28-15 MMA) after Malott’s missed leg kick early in the fight put Holland’s Protective Shorts Cup in jeopardy.
He attempted an arm triangle choke on Malott in the third round, but it wasn’t enough to seal the victory. In the end, Malott won the hard-fought five-round fight by a 29-28, 29-28, 29-28 decision.
Ayeman Zahavi defeated former title challenger Marlon Vera (23-11-1 MMA) by decision in a bantamweight bout. The final score was 29-28, 28-29, 29-28 from the judges in favor of Zahavi.
In the women’s flyweight division, former title challenger Manon Fiorotto (13-2 MMA) scored a shocking TKO win over Canada’s Jasmine Jasdavicius (14-4 MMA), setting the stage with a flurry of punches and clinching a stoppage victory at 1 minute 14 seconds into the opening round.
