“I’ll be honest, I didn’t like the showrunner,” Tom admitted in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on November 10th. “He knew that. I didn’t like being lied to, but he did it. So when he got fired, I think back when Twitter was still around, I posted, ‘Karma sucks.’
Given Tom’s dedication to production, why return to the ballroom? Now, when DWTS original showrunner Conrad Green returned for a season 31 run after exiting the ABC series following season 27, the former America’s Funniest Home Video host was more than satisfied.
“I couldn’t be happier that the people who are running the show right now are running the show,” he explained. “But to be honest, if the 20th anniversary had been in someone else’s hands, I wouldn’t have been turned away.”
“It’s really because Conrad was there, you know that,” he continued. “Look at what this show is doing. It’s making a comeback. It’s doing things that many, if anyone, would never have imagined a show from 20 years ago. Ratings are stagnant.”
Tom added that he has been surprised by the show’s recent success, adding: “I would rather see a zebra play the piano than see a zebra succeed.”
