“I didn’t want to do this modern approach to Hannah,” the 33-year-old told Variety. “I wanted to save it. But now Hannah is wearing Gucci.”
That’s because, from 2006 to 2011, she was just a teenager when she shot to mega-stardom playing the dual roles of ordinary teenager Miley Stewart and the eponymous musician. And by the time Hannah Montana: The Movie was released in 2009, the IRL pop star had far surpassed the fame of her country singer father, Billy Ray Cyrus. (However, the “Achy Breaky Heart” musician also played Miley’s father on screen.)
It is one of the most popular of the beloved Disney Channel productions and boasts an impressive set of statistics. The first season’s soundtrack debuted at the top of the Billboard 200, and Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus’ Best of the World concert documentary was the highest-grossing concert film at the time of its 2008 release.
As Miley told Variety, “There was a time when it felt like Hannah Montana was the Beatles or something.”
Since then, of course, she’s continued to collect flowers, winning the first of her three Grammy Awards in 2024 for her ubiquitous single “Flowers.”
