United States striker Patrick Agyemang has injured his Achilles tendon and will miss the upcoming FIFA World Cup, England’s Derby County announced.
“The club will provide Patrick with the highest level of medical care and rehabilitation throughout his recovery,” the club said in a statement on Tuesday.

Agyemang’s hopes for the World Cup in his home country were in jeopardy after he was carried away on a stretcher while playing in a derby game in England’s second division soccer league.
The 25-year-old landed awkwardly while taking the ball to his chest during Monday’s English Championship match and collapsed on the grass. He was visibly emotional when his right leg was tied and he was taken away.
“As a result of this injury, Patrick will unfortunately miss this summer’s FIFA World Cup. It would be a mistake to set a timetable for his recovery at this stage,” Darby said.
Agyeman has scored a team-leading 10 goals since joining Major League Soccer from Charlotte last summer, helping Derby rise to contention for promotion from the Championship.
During the recent international break, he came off the bench for the U.S. national team, scoring a goal in the loss to Belgium and playing in the game against Portugal.
These were his first appearances for the national team since starting in the semi-finals and final of the 2025 Gold Cup in July. Overall, he has scored six goals in 14 caps for the national team.
U.S. coach Mauricio Pochettino has until June 1 to name his World Cup squad. The United States is co-hosting the tournament with Canada and Mexico. The home team will face Paraguay, Australia and Tolkien in Group D.
