The U.S. men’s hockey team just experienced a golden moment.
In fact, Team USA won the gold medal in the 2026 Olympic Men’s Hockey Showdown on February 22, defeating longtime rival Canada in an epic 2-1 game. This victory marks the team’s first win at this event since 1980.
Forty-six years ago to today, Team USA defeated the Soviet Union in an event known as the “Miracle on Ice.” At that time, the American team was made up of amateur college students, while the Soviet team was made up of full-fledged professionals in the sport.
Fast-forward to almost 50 years later, and Team USA’s Jack Hughes once again delighted the American people by scoring the decisive goal that secured a historic victory.
After sweeping the puck past Canadian goaltender Jordan Binnington, the U.S. hockey team joined their players on the ice and celebrated the exciting moment.
“This is all about our country right now,” Jack said in a post-game interview on February 22nd. “I love America. I love my teammates. It’s unbelievable. The American hockey fraternity is so strong. I have so much support from former players. And I’m so proud to be an American today.”
