On Monday, the White House announced a 20-point plan by President Donald Trump to end the war in Gaza between Israel and Hamas.
The release comes minutes before Trump began talking to the White House about a proposal that was not agreed by Hamas.
Trump has been joined by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Trump said Israel and other countries have accepted the outline he detailed.
“If accepted by Hamas, this proposal calls for release of all remaining hostages immediately, but if not, it’s over 72 hours,” Trump said. That provision would require Hamas to release all deceased and living hostages.
“I hope we have a contract for peace. If Hamas refuses to be possible at all times, they are the only ones,” Trump said.
“Everyone else has accepted it. But we feel we have a positive answer. But if not, as you know, you will have our full support to do what you have to do.”
The plan calls for Gaza to be governed under a temporary transitional rule of the technocratic Apolitan Palestinian Commission, responsible for providing public services and the daily operations of local governments for the Gaza people.
The plan also calls for Gaza to be “redeveloped for the benefit of the people of Gaza” and “if both parties agree to this proposal, the war will soon end.”
“The Israeli forces will withdraw to the agreed line in preparation for the release of hostages,” the proposal said.
“When all hostages are returned, members of Hamas who commit to peaceful coexistence and abolish weapons will be given pardon,” the proposal states. “Members of Hamas who wish to leave Gaza will be provided with a safe passage to the receiving country.”
“Once you accept this agreement, full assistance will be sent to the Gaza Strip immediately.”
“Today, we believe we are taking an important step in setting the stage for ending the war in Gaza and dramatically moving forward in peace in the Middle East.”
“We support a plan to end the war in Gaza to achieve our war objectives,” Netanyahu said.
He warned that if Hamas refuses Trump’s plan, Israel will continue to indict the war.
“If Hamas rejects your plan and after Mr. President, or they accept it, they do everything to basically counter it, Israel will finish the job on its own,” Netanyahu said.
“This can be done in a simple way, or the hard way, but you can. I prefer the simple way, but it has to be done.”
