“(Colter) often finds himself in extreme situations,” Elwood said. “He screws up big time. He gets hurt a lot. He somehow sometimes meets people who get the best of him. I think that’s what’s interesting about it. It puts the audience in the situation of, ‘Did he get hurt badly? How do he get out of this situation? Is Keaton dead or alive?’
Although the injury feels almost permanent, Elwood previously revealed Colter may be on the road to recovery. However, there was a new red target on his back.
“I didn’t tell anyone else about this when he picked me up in Part 2, but he was in very bad shape,” he told TVLine on Dec. 14. “He was the only one who crawled out of the car, and then something bigger happened. Without giving too much away, he became a wanted man because he was at these crime scenes, and people started to suspect that he was in cahoots with the killer.”
He added, “There’s another plot that helps explain it, but the simple answer is yes. He needs help. We have decent characters and you can probably guess who he’ll call.”
