WASHINGTON (AP) — Maybe it was a nerve from the presence of royalty, or perhaps it was a simple mistake, but over the years there have been quite a few gaffes by the US president and the first women against members of the British royal family.

Carter’s kiss
President Jimmy Carter attended a summit dinner at Buckingham Palace in 1977.
The newly elected president was from Georgia and had strong roots in the south. He attended the event with members of the royal family and took photos together.
It was rumored that Carter kissed the Queen’s mother on the lips while greeting her.
Carter later said he kissed her on the cheek, but the British tabloids ran with the story for years.
Bush Miss Peak

When she arrived, Bush gave a welcoming speech. There, she slammed a line depicting the Queen as much older than her.
“You helped our country celebrate its twenty years in 1976 in 17,” Bush said, laughing as the crowd cried out.
He then turned his eyes to the Queen and shared a humorous look together.
“She saw that only a mother could give me a child,” he said.
Michelle Obama makes the first move
