French AI startup Mistral AI has finalized an investment of 2 billion euros at a post-money valuation of $14 billion, Bloomberg reported, positioning the company as one of Europe’s most valuable technical startups. Founded by former Deepmind and Meta researchers, the two-year-old Openai rival develops Open Source Language Models and Le Chat, AI chatbots built for European audiences.

Mistral has not commented on the report, but the round represents Mistral’s first major pay raise since it was valued at 5.8 billion euros in June 2024. The company previously raised over 1 billion euros from notable investors, including Andreessen Horowitz and General Catalyst.

This investment comes as European AI startups gain unprecedented momentum. According to Dealroom, European AI companies rose 55% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2025, with 12 European startups achieving unicorn status in the first half. Also leading the surge was Swedish Lovable AI coding platform, which reached a $1.8 billion valuation just eight months after its launch.
