“Grant is the provider and protector of the home,” she said. “It’s not like, ‘Oh, I have to do this,’ and I feel comfortable taking care of him.”
He added, “For me, I give Grant my respect and honor not because I have to, but because that’s the way God calls us and that’s the way I truly find myself most free and most content in my marriage.”
In the end, Maddie believes that her submission means she has “honor” and “respect” for Grant, and that they have “equal rights.”
“No one is more important than the other, no one has a greater voice than the other, and no one has dominant authority over the other,” she said. “We have the same rights. We just have different roles.”
“What God wants us to do when we get married is to dedicate our lives to each other and serve each other,” Maddie concluded. “You’re serving others. You’re not just thinking about yourself all the time.”
