The life of a showgirl: meaning and inspiration explained
While announcing that her 12th album will be released on October 3, 2025, Taylor said she chose only 12 songs for The Life of a Showgirl (meaning no more will be released) in order to keep the bar “very high” and make the album “just right” with its overall theme.
The inspiration was to go “behind the curtain” on Elas Tours.
Taylor said, “This album is about what was going on inside me behind the scenes during this tour, and it was so vibrant and electric and vibrant.”
She continued, “It’s coming from the most fun, wild, dramatic place in my life, so that enthusiasm comes through on this record.”
On a day off from touring, Taylor collaborated with hitmakers Max Martin and Shellback in Sweden to create “infectious anthems,” including the title track, which she performed with Sabrina Carpenter, the opening artist for the Elas tour.
In addition to “The Life of a Showgirl,” the songs included are “Ophelia’s Destiny”, “Elizabeth Taylor”, “Opalit”, “Father Figure”, “The First Daughter”, “Ruined Friendship”, “It’s Really Romantic”, “Wi$h Li$t”, “Wood”, “Cancel!” and “Honey”.
