Grimes defends Selena Gomez over ‘disturbing’ online comments about her appearance

Selena Gomez is killing them with kindness.

The “Sunset Boulevard” singer couldn’t help but laugh when someone asked him, “How do you shave your mustache?”

In fact, in a video she shared on her Instagram Story on Dec. 16, Selena laughed and said, “I was like, ‘I totally get it.'” “Actually, it’s not! It’s my melasma. I’m careful and treating it, but yeah, no, it’s there.”

According to the Cleveland Clinic, melasma is a common skin condition that causes dark, discolored patches due to overproduction of melanin. Discoloration is often caused by exposure to sunlight, which was the case for the 33-year-old.

“I actually have melasma and acne,” she says in the video, holding the camera close to her upper lip. “It’s actually from the sun, so of course you have to be careful and wear sunscreen.”

And it certainly took Selena a long time to laugh about her skin issues. As she told Vogue magazine in 2024, “I’ve grown a lot over the years, and at this point in my life, I feel really comfortable with who I am.”
