Jill Biden’s Secret Service agent accidentally commits suicide while escorting former first lady
A U.S. Secret Service agent assigned to protect former first lady Jill Biden accidentally shot himself in the foot and committed suicide.
The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. March 27 at Philadelphia International Airport after an “inadvertent discharge” of an agent’s gun, Secret Service spokesman Nate Herring told MS NOW in a statement.
Biden, 74, was not in the area at the time of the shooting.
Initial reports said the agent was on duty and was traveling in an unmarked Chevrolet SUV when the firearm was discharged, according to a statement from the Philadelphia Police Department obtained by MS NOW.
The deputy was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition, police said.
Officials said there was no disruption to Biden’s schedule or airport operations. There were no other injuries in the incident.
Biden, who served as first lady during her husband Joe Biden’s presidential term from 2021 to 2025, was in New York on March 26 to attend the opening of the off-Broadway play “Public Charge,” written by former chief of staff Julissa Reynoso.
