History and tradition are everywhere at Windsor Castle. However, for Canadian actor Eugene Levy, the royal encounter that awaited him was not ritual.
Known for his role in “American Pie” and for his Emmy-winning series “Schitt’s Creek,” Levy was filming episodes of his Apple TV+ travel show.
William may have arrived on the scooter – the way he goes around the castle – but the interaction was not limited to humor and rather fun. The prince showed a candidness that is rarely seen in public places.
“I’m not saying history overwhelms me. Other things overwhelm me,” William told Levy during filming. “History can be weight, anchor. If you’re too attached to the past, you’re inflexible. And I like a bit of change.”
Levi pushed him further. “I think what you’re saying is that you want to open up some…”
“I want to question things more,” William replied.
In a castle almost 1,000 years ago, William looked back at his late grandparents, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. “I miss my grandmother and grandfather,” he said. “There’s been a lot of change, especially being in Windsor. Windsor is her.”
The conversation quickly transformed into today’s family life. William admitted that the greatest pressure would come from his home, not from the royal family. “What’s connected to my family overwhelms me,” he said.
In an interview with CNN, Levy said the conversation was deeper than expected. “He reassured me and made me feel very relaxed. He has an incredible sense of humor,” Levy said.
Levy also reflected William’s openness about Charles III’s Catherine, who faced a cancer diagnosis in 2024.
“It… changes something that really matters,” Levy said. “And he seemed to indicate that it changed his way of thinking.”
On top of the pints at Windsor Pub, the conversation ended with a light note. “Life is sent to test us,” William said. “I am very proud of my wife and dad for how we handled everything last year. I am also in excellent control of my children.”
Levi lifted the glass. “Well, I hope that every other prince I come across is as nice, open and human as you.”
Once upon a time, behind the walls, the monarchy definitely looked human.
