KYIV, UKRAINE (AP) — Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky President Donald Trump said on Monday that he plans to travel to the United States this week to discuss possible U.S. deliveries of long-range weapons. warning to russia He may send a long distance to Kyiv tomahawk missile

Meeting with Mr. Zelensky playing cards The meeting could take place as early as Friday, Ukraine’s president said, adding that he would also meet with defense and energy companies and members of parliament.

“The main agenda is air defense and long-range capabilities to maintain pressure on Russia,” Zelenskiy said.

He made the remarks during a meeting with the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Callas. He also said he would seek further U.S. assistance to protect Ukraine’s struggling electricity and gas grid. Russian army’s relentless bombardment. The US visit follows what President Zelenskyy described as a “very productive” telephone conversation with President Trump on Sunday. President Trump later warned Russia that it might send long-range troops into Ukraine. tomahawk missile Unless Moscow resolves the war there soon. The missile will allow Ukraine to strike deep into Russian territory.

The Russian government has expressed “extreme concern” that the United States may provide Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin himself has previously suggested that the US supply of long-range missiles to Ukraine would seriously damage Russia-US relations.

Zelensky will join a Ukrainian delegation already in the United States for preliminary talks led by Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko. In recent weeks, Russia has stepped up attacks targeting electricity and gas infrastructure ahead of winter, seeking to cripple Ukraine’s power grid and undermine public morale ahead of sub-zero temperatures. Ukraine’s state emergency service said one person was killed in the deadliest drone and missile attacks early Monday around the Black Sea port of Odessa and in the northern Chernihiv region.

Karas, the EU’s top diplomat, promised continued pressure on Russia. He also expressed confidence that Hungarian-led opposition to a new Russian sanctions package would be overcome, even if the process extends to next week’s EU summit. “The financial needs are huge. We have to support Ukraine’s defense so that we don’t have to spend even more later on to repair the destroyed infrastructure,” Karas said. “We are 27 member states and 27 democracies, so discussions will take time…We are confident that we will be able to reach a decision, as we have before.”
