President Donald Trump said Monday that the war against Iran could soon end, according to a CBS News reporter, and the Kremlin said he spoke about the war in a separate phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“I think the war is pretty much over,” Trump said, according to CBS’ senior White House correspondent Weijia Jiang.
“They don’t have a navy, they don’t have communications, they don’t have an air force,” Trump said, according to Jiang, who posted on X about his interview with the president.
U.S. stock indexes rose in response to Jiang’s tweet.
According to Jiang, Trump also said the U.S. is “much further along” than initial predictions that it could take four to five weeks to end the war.
“Their missiles are scattered. They’re being blown up everywhere, including drone production,” Trump said, according to Jiang. “If you look, they have nothing left. Nothing left in a military sense.”
President Trump also told the press that he had someone other than Iran’s newly announced Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei in mind to lead the country, Jiang wrote.
According to Jiang, Trump said, “He has no message. There is nothing.”
According to Reuters, Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters that in a phone call with Trump, he shared proposals aimed at ending the war quickly.
