Police on Thursday killed his sister and injured seven people after stabbing a massive amount of stabbing in an Indigenous community in central Canada.

The 26-year-old man from Hollow Water First Nation, an Anishinave community on the eastern shore of Lake Winnipeg, fled the scene with a stolen vehicle and crashed into a police cruiser responding to the attack, killing Manitoba’s royal Canadian Mount Police (RCMP). His younger sister, 18, died of injuries sustained by stab wounds.

One of the victims’ sons and daughters said their father was stabbed several times after someone broke into his home. His lungs were holed up by a stab wound in his back, but they said he remained conscious.

Meanwhile, a female police officer who was seriously injured in a car crash is currently recovering from a hospital.

Most of the injured were taken to the Health Science Center in Winnipeg by aviation and land.

The hospital temporarily declared a Code Orange Alert. This is usually issued during mass casualty events. This was later lifted.

The motivation behind the attack is yet to be known.

Hollow Water First Nation chief Larry Barker said he was praying for all the victims and asked his community to do the same.

RCMP officials and other officials have closed state roads for investigation.

“At this point, there is no risk to public safety,” RCMP later said.
