Authorities said pig heads appeared outside several mosques around Paris on Tuesday, denounced the humiliation against Muslims.
France has the largest Muslim population in Europe, with over 6 million people considered pigs to be impure.
“The investigation was opened soon,” Paris Police Chief Laurent Nunes said in X. “Everything is done to find the perpetrators of these sleazy behaviours.”
The Paris prosecutor’s office said the pig’s head was found in front of at least two mosques in Paris and a mosque just outside the city.
The pig’s head was also found in a suitcase outside a mosque north of the city.
He added that the word “Macron” is a clear reference to French President Emmanuel Macron, engulfed in political and financial crisis.
Police forces in Paris are investigating alleged cases of inciting hatred, aggravated by discrimination.
Home Minister Bruno Reciro condemned the act.
“I want to enable our Muslim compatriots to practice their faith in peace,” he said. “I understand that they feel it hurts.”
